What Are My Child's Options for Braces?

Thanks to modern technologies and countless orthodontic improvements, braces are more comfortable and affordable now than they have been in the past. Cuddly Smiles Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics provides a variety of orthodontic treatments to cater to the different wants and needs of Allen, TX children. Traditional metal braces offer fun customizations that let your child show their personality. However, clear ceramic braces are made from a translucent material, making them near impossible to see. Whether your child prefers traditional or ceramic braces, this orthodontic treatment can help align their teeth for a beautiful and healthy smile. To find out more about our braces options, schedule an appointment with one of our pediatric dentists, Dr. Yvonne Felli or Dr. Ajikwaga Felli, at our office in Allen, TX.

What Can I Expect When My Child Gets Braces?

After your child's initial consultation and it has been decided he or she would benefit from braces, a personalized treatment program will be created by one of our pediatric dentists. When you return to get your child's braces, their teeth will be properly prepped and cleaned. We will paint your child's teeth with a bonding agent, then either metal brackets or clear, ceramic brackets will be placed. A UV light will be used to harden the glue. Once all the mounts are done, we will thread the archwire through them and either add the color bands of your child's choice or add subtle white bands. The application procedure usually moves fairly fast, and your child might experience little to no discomfort. Your child will have to return to Cuddly Smiles Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics once a month for adjustments and progress exams. Braces may make flossing and cleaning the teeth harder so good oral hygiene is imperative. When he or she gets braces, we will teach them how to clean their teeth and offer some helpful tips. As a rule of thumb, we recommend that your child floss and brush after each meal. Maintaining all appointments and regular dental cleanings may also help ensure optimal outcomes. Usually, most patients have braces for 1 – 2 years, but your child's treatment period will be based on the seriousness of their situation.
